I'd guess 2 reasons for Jville's, along with the very similar Hillshire, popularity:

1. The same reason that you can buy a McBurger anywhere, but it's pretty darn hard to find a good locally-owned drive-in: Advertising drives them out.

2. A lot of supermarkets have stopped making their own, maybe because it's too much trouble. And consumers might somehow think they're lower quality or generic, when some supermarket-made sausage is great.

Personally I'd go with locker plant made ones every time. My current favorites are from Reetz's Meats in Neshkoro, WI, a little resort community in central WI, but there's a lot of good ones in that area.
