Refrigerated shelf life of cooked sausage?

My general rule is freeze what I'm not going to eat within 2 weeks but...I gave a guy a piece of summer sausage that was made on 3/20/05 and it ended up in the back of his frig.(Vacuum sealed and unopened) Now he's wondering if it's any good? (5 weeks later!)The sausage was kept cold during grinding and was taken to 160F during cooking and had the traditional 1 tsp of #1 cure per 5lbs meat. The larger sticks were cut into (4) pieces the following day and vacuum sealed in 3 mil bags. Logic tells me when in doubt, throw it out. I told him to toss it but I think he's not going to listen to me so I might be able to answer this question myself in a few days :-)
Any opinions?
Tom
