wild turkey breast

I am in the experimenting stage of smoking a wild turkey breast. I was told by some hunter friends that wild turkey is like eating a cooked sneaker! I have done domestic turkey breast in a brown sugar, salt and cure brine with great results, everyone raves about them, but I was looking for advice on how to deal with the toughness of a wild bird. Any help would be appriciated
