BREAD & BUTTER PICKLES

(This recipe is an old family recipe)

6 qts cucumbers-sliced*
3 green peppers-sliced*
1 sweet red pepper-sliced*
12 Onions-sliced*
1/2 C salt
2 qts cider vinegar
1/4 C mustard seeds
2 teas tumeric
6 C sugar
1 Tab whole cloves
*I used a manual slicer to slice everything that needed to be sliced.

Wash cucumbers & slice as thin as possible. Slice onions & peppers; combine with cucumbers & salt; let stand 3 hours & drain. Combine vinegar, sugar & spices in large preserving kettle, bring to boil. Add drained cucumbers; heat thoroughly but do not boil. Pack while hot into sterilized 1 pint canning jars & seal.

Process for 5 min. in a hot water bath.
